ZIMBABWE’S Warriors finally got their preparations for the 2006 African Cup of
Nations underway yesterday when the senior team’s locally-based contingent held their first training session at the
National Sports Stadium.
But there was still no sign of truant first choice goalkeeper Energy Murambadoro amid conflicting reports about
his whereabouts, raising genuine concerns that the CAPS United goalminder could eventually be dropped from the
Warriors provisional squad.
Warriors assistant manager and team liaison officer Shariff Mussa said yesterday Murambadoro could not
join camp on Tuesday ahead of the start of training because he was understood to be out of the country for trials.
"As for Energy, he is not in camp because I understand that he went out of the country for trials and you would
have to speak to the coach (Charles Mhlauri) because he knows the full story,’’ said Mussa.
Mhlauri could not be reached for comment to shed light on Murambadoro or when his foreign assistant — Dutchman
Dick De Boer — would assume duty as his phone went unanswered.
Although the official version appears to be that Murambadoro had left the country last week for a
trial stint at English Championship League (First Division) outfit Queens Park Rangers, the 2003 Soccer Star was spotted in Harare this week.
