ZIMBABWE Warriors go down fighting!

Zimbabwe v's Nigeria
Zimbabwe can only get better!

An unconvincing Nigeria beat Zimbabwe 2-0 to top Group D at the African Cup of Nations.

Coming on as a substitute Obi swung in a corner for Christian Obodo to head home for the first goal.

Moments later the 18-year-old scored with a low 20-yard shot that flew in the bottom corner of Gift Muzadzi's goal.

Zimbabwe can be proud of a brave showing which really worried their more highly regarded opponents.

Benjamin Mwaruwari, their Portsmouth striker was quite superb, and the Warriors can find themselves unlucky not to have at least a goal to show for their efforts.

The Warriors forced two good saves from Vincent Enyeama after the goals, first was a long-range effort from Cephas Chimedza, the second a shot on the turn from close range Benjani Mwaruwari.

Nigeria need a draw in their final game against Senegal to reach the last eight, while Zimbabwe cannot advance.

Starting Line-ups:

  • NIGERIA - Vincent Enyeama, Joseph Yobo, Taye Taiwo, Chidi Odiah, Joseph Enakarhire, Chuckwudi Utaka, Obafemi Martins, Atanda Ayila, Wilson Oruma, Julius Aghahowa, Christian Obodo

  • ZIMBABWE - Esrom Nyandoro, Zvenyika Makonese, Joel Luphahla, Tinashe Nengomasha, Benjani Mwaruwari, Shingayi Shingi, Charles Yohane, Cephas Chimedza, James Matola, Lloyd Chitembe, Gift Muzadzi
