Bunjira admits loss of confidence

Bunjira

(April 21,2005) Former Zimbabwean International, Wits University’s hit-man Alois Bunjira has admitted that his teammates have lost confidence.

Wits have found themselves in a deadly situation, the relegation zone – an area that the “Students” are unfamiliar with.

The last time Wits were caught up in the danger zone was during the 2000/01 season, when they closed off the year on 13th spot.

But two years later, ‘The Clever Boys’ bounced back and almost walked away with the league, showing a great fighting spirit throughout the 2002/01 season, consequently ending the league in 3rd position.

“I really don’t know what’s going on these days,” Bunjira told Kick Off.

“We have lost confidence, but I’m sure that things will turn out for the best.”

Wits aggravated their relegation battle when they lost by 2-1 to Ajax Cape Town at Newlands Stadium last night, and subsequently remained in 11th spot in the Castle Premiership with 26 points, just a single point above bottom of the log Manning Rangers.

“We’ve been struggling to bang in the goals, but if we had scored first against Ajax we would have done well because we were holding them down defence wise,” Bunjira said.

Bunjira, a one time Mamelodi Sundowns forward, squashed rumours that he is likely to leave ‘The Students’ at the end of the season.

“I’m still in negotiations with the management because this has been a home away from home for me,” said Bunjira.

Wits are only left with five games to end what they would dub their toughest season to date.

They will be away to fellow strugglers Rangers at the Chatsworth Stadium on Wednesday next week.
