Zimbabwean born Los Angeles Galaxy chief marksman
Joseph Ngwenya's impressive play in the United States Major League Soccer has earned
him a call to the senior national squad.
The dreadlocked Ngwenya is one of the players named for the Warriors’
twin assignments in the Cosafa Castle Cup qualifiers in Namibia on April 16 and 17
as well as the Independence Silver Jubilee celebrations against Tanzania on
April 18 at the National Sports Stadium.
Ngwenya, a player receiving rave reviews in the MLS, once
turned out for Sundowns before moving to Los Angles Galaxy four years ago.
The striker gave his first interview to ZIMBABWESOCCER.COM

Zimbabwesoccer: "We heard reports that you went to Germany sometime last year for trails, what happened?",
Ngwenya: "In Germany I did alright, Juergen Klinsmann who was our technical
director before he took on the Germany head coaching job organized a trial for
me with Humburg S.V. I trained with them but they had a full quota of non EU players so
they couldn't sign me".
Zimbabwesoccer: "How happy are you in the MLS, do you have any ambitions of playing in Europe and would France be an ideal place for you?",
Ngwenya: "I'm pretty happy to be in the MLS. California is a nice place to live in and
although the MLS is one of the most underrated leagues in the world, it's probably
gotten a lot better and deserves a lot of credit.Look at the U.S. national team
players who played in the last World Cup (Most were from the MLS and they gave a good
account of themselves). I'd love to play in Europe but I have to get better at doing some
things before i take that step. Yeah France would be cool with all the
Africans playing there but my ideal league would be the Bundesliga".
Zimbabwesoccer: "What are your goals or ambitions for this year?
Ngwenya: "My goals: to play as well as i can for the Galaxy (score a least 10 goals) ,
get another chance to play in Europe and go on to represent Zimbabwe".
Zimbabwesoccer: "Also are you aware of the call up to the National Team for the
Cosafa Cup ?",
Ngwenya: "Yeah i saw the call-up but i think i may not be able to go because of club
commitments and the fact that ZIFA are yet to contact my club".
Zimbabwesoccer: "Would you be willing to play for Zimbabwe in the upcoming World Cup
Qualifiers and also the Natons Cup Finals in Eqypt?",
Ngwenya: "I'd love to play for Zim in the World Cup qualifiers and Nations Cup in Egypt
next year".
Zimbabwesoccer: "Thank you Joe and good luck to you and the Galaxy this season".
Ngwenya: "Thank you!".
